Our Fold are a indie/rock band from Bolton. They have an impressive list of gigs already under their belt including appearances at Glastonbury and Reading/Leeds Festivals. They have also played alongside The Prodigy, Kasabian, The Coral, Florence And The Machine,The Fratellis and The Enemy. If this was not enough, former Stone Roses guitarist Aziz was a member of the band for a couple of years. The band are currently playing dates across the UK and we spoke to Ryan to find out the story behind Our Fold
Who is in the band and where are you from?
We're from a town called Westhoughton near Bolton in Greater Manchester and the band consists of Damien Riley on lead vocals and guitar, Dan McLaren on Bass, Ryan Ambler on drums and Gary Drury on lead guitar.
Where does the name come from?
The name came from a friend of ours who referred to our group of friends as 'The Fold' so we slightly modified it a bit.
What's the story so far?
We've been playing together for the past 7 years minus the a couple of lead guitarists. We've also played all over the UK and have been privileged to play many major festivals including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds Festivals to name a few and also festivals abroad too. We signed to Dset Records a couple of years and we're just putting the finishing touches to our debut album which should hopefully be out by the end of 2012.
How would you describe your music?
Heavy Indie (Indie with balls)
Where can we find your music?
We have most of our demos and rough tracks on playlists on Facebook and Soundcloud etc..
Here are some of the links to check them out:
facebook Soundcloud
You've played some impressive gigs already, whats been the best one?
There's been many gigs we've thoroughly enjoyed over the years and it would be hard between us to pick a definitive one but one what stays fresh in our minds is the date we opened up for Kasabian a couple of years ago at the Brighton Dome. That gig would be very hard to forget.
Do you have any live dates planned?
Yes we're constantly trying to play as much as possible at the moment. We've got a fair few dates up and down the country coming up. The gig listing is on our Facebook cover photo so It's not too hard to find.
You recently play Kendal Calling how was that?
We really enjoyed it. The set was storming and the crowd were tremendous. A good time was had by all.
How did you come to have Aziz playing in the band?
We met Aziz at a Versus Cancer gig we did at The Ritz in Manchester. A few months later our management informed him that we needed a new a guitarist and he came to rehearsal the next week for a chat and then brought his guitar the week after and that was that for the next couple of years then.
What's next for Our Fold?
The next chapter in our band is to keep playing up and down the country and prepare for our album to come out. We're in the process of getting the first single together at the moment so keep an eye out.
